Records show that the thread rolling process was first introduced in the early 19th century with many people working on its development. By 1880 it was used in regular production and it is now accepted that the cold forged thread rolling procedure has several benefits over cut threads.
Rolled threads have greater accuracy and a high degree of surface finish, with no material wastage and a high rate of production. The process strengthens the threads in tension, shear and fatigue. During the process, the grain of the material is not severed as they are in other methods of screw thread production, but are re-formed in continuous unbroken lines following the contours of the threads.
